Ernie Fliegel
Born: 1904-05-11
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
Birthplace: Romania
Died: 1982-07-11 (Age:78)

Ernie Fliegel quit the ring after losing an eye during his last bout (with Billy DeFoe) in 1927. Thereafter he managed boxers, including Frankie Battaglia, the Canadian middleweight champion. In 1931 he was with Jack Dempsey’s “comeback” training camp in San Francisco. Dempsey would appear off and on in local vaudeville shows with an act called The Albee Sisters. One of those sisters was Fliegel’s wife-to-be, and it was Dempsey who introduced the two to each other. Dempsey would often visit the Fliegels’ Minneapolis home in the 1950s.

Ernie Fliegel died on July 11, 1982 at the age of 78. He had immigrated to the United States from Romania in 1910 at the age of six.
